How To Find Highly Profitable Keywords For Your PPC Campaigns
The principal goal of your PPC campaigns is to make them profitable and to get
a ROI that is as high as possible. In order to achieve that you need to be
able to generate traffic that converts into sales and you need to get your
clicks as cheap as possible. Once all these conditions are fulfilled you
keep on growing your keyword list to get as much traffic as possible.
Now, to achieve these goals you need keywords that convert into sales and
you need as many of them as possible. In this article, I would like to give
you some ideas how you can grow your keyword list:
The first and most obvious approach would be to use a tool like the Google
AdWords Keyword Tool and to do a search based on the most obvious terms in
your niche. Ok, there is nothing wrong with this approach and it actually is
a good starting point. However, the problem here is that most of your
competitors will be doing the same. And you will probably be using more or
less the same keywords as everyone else in your niche.
So, to find keywords not everyone will be using you have to get a bit more
creative and think "outside the box" to get new keyword ideas. Ask yourself
what are the keywords your customer will be typing into the Google search
box to find an answer for his needs, wants, problems…
To answer this question you need to get a good understanding of your market.
Ask yourself the following questions: "What are the problems my customers
are facing?", "What solutions are they searching for?", "What exactly do
they want?", "What are the keywords they might be using to formulate their
questions?"…
Make an effort to learn more about your typical customer. Go to forums and
discussion groups, read comments on blogs, do some research… This will give
you plenty of ideas about the challenges and problems your customers are
facing, which words they are using when they formulate their questions and
what exactly they want.
This will allow you to come up with plenty of new keyword ideas – keywords
that convert into sales and keywords most of your competitors won't be
using.
Here is another useful strategy: Type your main keyword into the Google
search box, make a note of the top ranking business site, copy and paste
this URL into the Google Search Based Keyword Tool and click the "Find
Keywords" button to find new keywords. Repeat the entire process with other
top ranking business sites and with other seed keywords. And again, you will
find tons of new keywords you would have never found using the Google
AdWords Keyword Tool only.

Once your campaigns become profitable and you start making some money, I
also recommend you use one or the other professional keyword tool to find
more highly profitably keywords you wouldn't be able to find otherwise.
I recommend the following two keyword tools:
Wordtracker: This is a very popular tool that allows you to quickly compile
a huge list of keywords. Access a database of 340 million search engine
queries, get the search count for each keyword, find out what your target
audience is searching for… and much more.
KeywordSpy: This tool is really amazing. KeywordSpy returns all the keywords
your competitors are bidding on and not only that, it also provides you with
the information which of those keywords work and which don't. It tells you
which keywords generate the most traffic, which are the highest converting
keywords… and lots of other very valuable information you won't get with a
traditional search tool.
